What is Mediation
|
|
A practical, informal way of resolving a dispute in which a trained mediator helps to discuss concerns and, if possible, reach a voluntary agreement.
|
-
The mediator does not take sides or make decision. Instead the mediator encourages communication between the parties to work together and either resolve or manage the conflict.
-
The mediator cannot give legal or professional advice. However, the mediator looks at the problem in different ways.
-
Agreement is reached only when all parties agree.

Benefits of Mediation
|
|
Each mediation is unique and the outcomes for any particular situation cannot be predicted, but there are some trends characteristic of mediation. |
-
Lower costs than court settlements - mediation is usually less expensive than court litigation and sessions can fit your schedule
-
Customized agreements - Mediation can result in agreements that satisfy all parties more than compromise.
-
Personal involvement - Mediation is a way for people to express their needs and interests in a non-threating manner.
-
Preserve relationships - Mediation agreements that satisfy all parties' interests can help preserve the relationship.
-
Agreements that last - Mediated agreements tend to last over time because all parties have an investment in keeping an agreement they worked out themselves.
